JB Monaco built the flats at 2430 Leavenworth in 1904 and bought and moved into 2434 Leavenworth in 1915. He lived at 2434 until his death in 1938. His son Dante was three years old when the family moved into 2430 in 1904 and lived continuously in one or the other of the two properties until his death in 1975. While most of the following photographs take place on lower Eastern Russian Hill, many significant images are from other locations on the hill including Teddy Roosevelt's "Great White Fleet" in 1908, the Flag House series and the city burning down as seen from the hill above Vallejo and Taylor in 1906. These images are presented neither chronologically nor in any particular order. Any information relative to further definition of locations or dates would be appreciated.
